Vintage 1972 Conn Elkhart 88H Trombone F Attachment eBay Trombone, hence why it's here especially since Conn trombones weren't outsourced to Yamaha in Japan, plus they seemed to transition differently, such as 14Hs being made into 1972, and this interesting bit here.

  • Conn 88H Trombone with Case. Serial Number is GC67010. Lacquer is in great condition with only some wear in the common places. This trombone has been well taken care of and played regularly for the last year. The slide is smooth and it plays with the big, warm sound that 88H’s are known for.
  • The slide has 88h engraved into it, as well as the serial number GC3xxxxx (x's are digits). The serial number is very distinctly NOT GA. I cannot find a list of Conn serial numbers online with GC in it. The lacquer is in very good condition. Also looks like the Elkhart Conn with the rose brass bell.
  • Used Conn 88H/71H Hybrid Professional Bb/F Tenor Trombone in lacquer.563” bore 71H hand slide, closed wrap rotor valve section, 8.5” 88H “artist symphony” bell flare. Instrument is in good condition apart from heavy lacquer wear and pitting throughout.
  • Few have succeeded. The 88H is as much at home in the symphony orchestra or concert band as it is in the recital hall, and that's where it really excels. This trombone has similar dimensions to other popular large bore trombones:.547', 8.5' bell. The Bach 42, also made by Conn-Selmer, has the same numbers. But the Conn is different.

I recently came into possession (cough cough, impulsively bought cough) of a Conn 88H. I cannot for the life of me figure out when it was made. Some important details:

The Bell is engraved similarly to the Elkhart model, but instead of 'Elkhart IND USA' it says, 'made in USA', leading me to believe it's a post-Elkhart horn.
I did not see this style of bell engraving anywhere I looked. The newer ones have different art or often say 'artist symphony'.

The slide has 88h engraved into it, as well as the serial number GC3xxxxx (x's are digits). The serial number is very distinctly NOT GA. I cannot find a list of Conn serial numbers online with GC in it.

The lacquer is in very good condition. Also looks like the Elkhart Conn with the rose brass bell.

The slide butts up against cork, not a spring (I assume).

Does anyone know when/where this was made? I also thought of the possibility that someone mix and matched the slide and the bell, but both pieces suggest an 88H model.

    <p>Conn Tenor Trombone H77 Connought. This trombone is around 50 years old. Has a beautiful tone, so much nicer than the Yamaha I used to have. It has fading to the brass with plenty of playing wear. There are small dents to the tuning bend and the slide bend but don’t interfere with the sound. The inner slide has a small ding but the slide moves beautifully.</p><p>This trombone was made for intermediate players and despite its tarnished look, has a great sound. Comes with original fitted lined case. Also comes with slide cream, snake slide brush cleaner and a Bach mouthpiece.</p><p>Bell and slide are both marked H77.</p><p>Will also post overseas for extra postage costs.</p><p>Dispatched mainland UK by Royal Mail 2nd Class.</p>
