I'm planning on getting a 12ga shotgun for the versatility of hunting both big and small game. But I'm thinking that for squirrels, it would be better to pick up a decent .177 air rifle specifically for squirrel hunting.
What are the disadvantages? I certainly don't want to injure a squirrel, I'd rather use whichever weapon gives me a clean kill. But I don't like the idea of trying to eat a squirrel that's been mangled with fifteen lead pellets all over its torso.
