How to Identify a PRS Guitar Model. Paul Reed Smith began making top-of-the-line guitars in Maryland in 1985. At the time of publication, the guitars are being made in the United States and South Korea. To properly identify a model, locate the model number and determine which country the guitar was made in. And in the serial number. When PRS had under 100K guitars it was the way to find out, now that its over 100K production (160K or so) you just have to keep that in mind. I also think some of the newer PRS were stamped 10 into the wood as opposed to just marked. The CE models (bolt on) are numbered a lil different, the CE model ran for about 15-20 years and was recently.
Hello,
I have a PRS custom 22 wood libary with an east indian rosewood neck that is unfinished and the serial number is stamped in instead of handwritten. I have since been told that all PRS serial numbers are handwritten so mine is not legit. I feel like this has to be incorrect because when i search all the east indian rosewood neck prs' they all have stamped serials, i am assuming since it is unfinished and could rub off without the protective layer. Anyone else with any ideas or an east indian rosewood neck that can see if their serial is stamped or handwritten.
Thanks
